DESIRE // The risk of deeply wanting something is that you might not get it. A new job, a love interest, freedom to pursue a lifelong passion. When we admit the intensity of those desires to ourselves, we expose the frailty of our emotions to the world, for we are easily disappointed. Buddhism teaches that desire is the root of pain and by eliminating desire we can finally escape to find our peace. Numbness is appealing. It’s far easier to say I do not care. But I do, holding out hope that the depth of my desires will one day be met. Maybe years from now, maybe even beyond this life, certainly in the most unexpected way possible. But all the anticipation will be worth it.
